Abstract
In order to inverstigate the existence of myocardial depressant factor (MDF) in plasm, the occlusion of superior mesenteric artery(SAO) for two hours and then release of SAO were performed in rabbits. The release of SAO resulted in server changes in mean arterial blood pressure from 105¡¾5.9 to 54¡¾2.1 §®Hg and the rabbit died within 40 minutes after the release. These severe alterations of blood pressure were never occurred in sham-shock. The effect of MDF on the strip of rabbit left atrial muscle in the shocked-plasma was assayed in vitro. Isometric contraction of the muscle preparation in the plasma were triggered by electrical stimulation. The degrees of contractile force in control plasma and sham-shocked plasma were compared with that in SAO-shocked plasma. Left atrial preparation in 2:1 diluted sham-shocked plasma showed no considerable changes in contractility ranging 8¡10%. However, the same preparation in 2:1 diluted SAO-shocked plasma revealed a remarkable decrease(-20¡-40%) in contractility. From the above results, it might be concluded that the material released from the ischemic visceral organ(s) decreased the myocardial contracitility significantly.
